Stroke Play |
The winner is determined by the lowest score for the tournament. The score can be gross (total strokes) or net (adjusted score by a handicap).
Stableford Competition |
Points are awarded on each hole for the score in relation to par. Better scores are worth more points, so the player with the most points at the end of the tournament is the winner.
Match Play |
Each hole is a separate competition between two players/teams. The player/team with the most holes won is the winner of the match.
Skins Game |
Each hole is a separate competition and is assigned a monetary value. The player with the lowest score on a hole wins a 'skin' (and the money), and the player with the most skins wins the event.
Scramble |
Each member of the group hits their own ball from the tee box. The best position is chosen and each team member plays from there. This continues for every shot until the hole is finished.
Texas Scramble |
The scramble format applies, but at least four drives of every player must be used.
Florida Scramble |
The scramble format applies, but the player whose shot is chosen cannot play the very next shot.
|
The scramble format applies. A group handicap is calculated from individual handicaps.
Modified Scramble |
Each player hits their own drive, the best shot is chosen and the second shot is hit from the best location. Each golfer then plays their own ball to the hole. The best score on each hole is the team’s tournament score.
|
Everyone plays their own ball, with the best score on each hole serving as the team’s score.
Peoria System |
The Peoria System is a handicapping system used for the tournament round. The score on six pre-selected holes (which are unknown to golfers) determine the 'handicap', which is used to calculate the net score.
Callaway System |
The Callaway System involves consulting a chart following the round to determine a handicap deduction and handicap allowance. |
